Message from the Principal

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,


I am honored to be the Principal of CJD International School, a vibrant and diverse community of learners. Our school's aim is to provide an exceptional education to students from all around the world, fostering a love for learning and preparing them for success in their future endeavors.


As we begin another academic year, I want to remind everyone of our school's core values of respect, responsibility and resilience. We believe that these values are essential in developing a community of global citizens, who can make positive contributions to the world.

Our History

Colégio Júlio Dinis (CJD) is a private school located in the city of Porto, Portugal. The school was founded in 1934, one of the oldest schools in Portugal, with a vision to provide quality education to children in Porto. The school was named after Júlio Dinis, a prominent 19th-century Portuguese writer, who had close ties to the city of Porto. It started as a small school with a handful of students and a team of passionate educators. Over the years, CJD has grown and evolved and, today, it is recognized as a leading educational institution in the region.


At CJD, we have always believed in providing a holistic education that nurtures not just the educational growth of our students but also their personal and social development.   • Which pedagogical pathways are available at CJD?

    At CJD, we offer a variety of educational programs to meet the diverse needs and goals of our students. Our programs include all the Cambridge Pathway, the Academica Dual Diploma program and the Non-native Portuguese Program.


    Our Cambridge education program provides students with an internationally recognized curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving and independent learning. Through this program, students develop a strong foundation in a range of subjects, including maths, science, language, humanities and the arts.


    The Academica Dual Diploma program is a unique offer that allows students to graduate on two diplomas – the Portuguese High School Diploma and the American High School Diploma. This program provides students with a truly global perspective and prepares them for success in today's interconnected world.


    The Non-native Portuguese Program provides the support and resources that our students need to succeed in the Portuguese curriculum. Through a combination of intensive language instruction and a gradual transition to Portuguese-language courses, students can master the language and integrate into the mainstream curriculum.

    We believe that academic rigor is essential to prepare our students for success in the future. Our teachers are committed to provide challenging coursework and assignments that encourage critical thinking and independent learning.

  • What is the grading system used at CJD?

    The grading system will depend on the pathway of the student. On the Portuguese school system, for example, we use a 20-value grading system, with 10 being the minimum passing grade. Students receive regular feedback on their performance through progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.
